We are looking to recruit a Band 7 CT Superintendent Radiographer to join our friendly team here at the Great Western Hospital.

The Great Western Hospital is currently looking to recruit a Band 7 CT Superintendent to lead the CT service in the Radiology department to support the recovery and current demand within diagnostics. The Radiology department hosts digital plain film rooms, multiple CT scanners, Interventional, and Mobile equipment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an established radiographer with NHS experience looking to increase their knowledge and work with state-of-the-art equipment, which currently includes a 5% recruitment and retention premium.

Main Duties of the Job
  1. To conduct a wide range of CT scans upon a range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental, and legal standards and requirements.
  2. To independently assess and justify referrals under IR(ME)R 2017 following practitioner guidelines where appropriate.
  3. To independently assess each patient and adapt radiographic techniques according to the needs of the patient.
  4. Able to interpret Clinician's requirements, to determine the appropriate radiographic scan technique and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic.
  5. To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate, i.e., undertaking additional or specialist techniques.
  6. To undertake CT scans in the absence of a radiologist according to agreed protocols.
  7. To be able to use the departmental radiology information computer system (CRIS) as required and be conversant with the picture archive communication system (PACS).
  8. To undertake Quality Control procedures within CT including Quality Assurance testing for image quality and equipment safety, and to help with clinical audits.

Job Responsibilities
  1. To undertake IV injections with no supervision.
  2. To undertake and participate in clinical audit and research and to act on the findings where possible and provide statistical information on the workload when necessary.
  3. Able to undertake more complex radiological examinations in CT with little or no direction. This may involve offering a verbal interpretation of images and providing consultative advice to other practitioners and clinicians.
  4. Involvement in the appointment scheduling and monitoring of waiting lists to ensure the efficient use of resources.
  5. Will utilise supporting evidence to help develop practice and protocols within specified areas to ensure continuous development of the service.
  6. Take part in the provision and development of the out of hours CT Service.
  7. The post holder will be required to efficiently control the workflow patterns within the department/section dealing with conflicting demands from various sources and prioritising according to clinical need.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience in a management position in an operational or service management capacity.
  • Experience of training and managing students.
  • Experience of dealing with challenging situations.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to manage staff effectively.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to contribute to the departmental education programme and deliver presentations to multidisciplinary groups.
  • Possess mature judgement and decision-making skills and be highly reflective in thinking and outlook.
  • Understanding of budgets.
  • Evidence of CPD.
Qualifications
  • BSc Diagnostic Radiography or DCR Equivalent.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Postgraduate qualification in CT or MRI.
