The Band 6 Pre-Assessment nurse will work as an autonomous practitioner with a caseload of complex patients within a team structure. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate care is essential to our organisation. Pre-Assessment is considered to be a pivotal part of the patient’s pathway, ensuring patients are in their optimal health for their procedures. The post holder will be responsible for leading the service in Winchester with band 7 support across all Trust sites: Basingstoke, Winchester, and Andover.
Main duties of the job
- Practise autonomously, managing a caseload of patients and supporting the team in delivering a seven-day, twenty-four-hour service. Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining high standards of professional practice to ensure quality and safety of patient care, experience, and the patient journey.
- Ensuring patients are fully informed about their procedures and what to expect during post-operative recovery.
- Applying specialised clinical practice, knowledge, skills, and experience.

Qualifications
- Current level one NMC registration with post-registration experience in pre-assessment.
- First-level degree or working towards one.
- Holder of History Taking and Physical Assessment course.
Experience
- Relevant clinical experience in pre-assessment.
- Knowledge of policies, practices, and procedures, including NHS standards and patient care requirements.
- Previous experience in Women’s Health is desirable.
Skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and respond to urgent and emergency situations effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting and receiving complex information within a multidisciplinary team and conveying sensitive information empathetically to patients and carers.
- Demonstrates leadership in managing change.
- Physically fit to manage light to moderate physical effort during shifts.
- Capable of managing highly distressing or emotional situations empathetically.
