As a Social Worker within the Children Looked After and Leaving Care Service, you will provide support and interventions to meet the needs of children and care leavers in a flexible and responsive manner. Guided by Restorative Practices, you will work in foster homes, residential placements, semi-independent settings, and communities, conducting direct work with children, young people, and their families. You will assess children to develop and oversee care plans, collaborating with the professional network to ensure outcomes are achieved. You will provide both direct and indirect specialist support work.
Sutton’s Children Looked After and Leaving Care Team is responsible for care planning to ensure permanency and to support children in care towards independence while maintaining safety. Located at The Quad, a pioneering hub for contextual safeguarding and innovative practice with adolescents, the team fosters a positive, restorative culture. We lead innovative projects with strong engagement from young people and collaborate closely with local organizations and businesses.
We welcome applications from individuals with a social work qualification, who have completed their AYSE and hold current registration with Social Work England. You should possess excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with service users and stakeholders at all levels. Experience working with vulnerable children and young people, and knowledge of statutory requirements such as the Children’s Act, Children Leaving Care Act, and Children in Social Care Act, are essential. Candidates must be culturally sensitive, capable of working with diverse populations, including those with English as a second language and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. The role requires awareness of safeguarding, confidentiality limits, and understanding of youth development, working in a restorative and trauma-informed manner. A valid driving license is essential for this role.
