Role Overview
- As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a variety of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. Your core objective will be to ensure 100% system uptime by executing proactive maintenance, managing change control, and responding to incidents swiftly and professionally.
- You will coordinate sub-contractors, oversee preventative maintenance schedules, and contribute to delivering a resilient and compliant engineering service.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
- Monitor and troubleshoot all plant and equipment, logging and resolving incidents as needed.
- Manage critical building systems, including:
- Electrical systems (low/medium voltage)
- Mechanical systems
- HVAC systems
- UPS, generators
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Water systems
- Perform low and high voltage switching operations (as authorised).
- Utilise systems such as BMS (Building Management System), PMS (Power Monitoring System), and CMS (Control & Monitoring System).
- Oversee and support the delivery of planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
- Coordinate sub-contracted engineering resources, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance.
- Follow detailed operational and change management procedures, using service desk ticketing systems to track progress.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
- Completion of an engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
- HND or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
- Experience in high-pressure, precision engineering or data centre environments.
- Professional certifications (e.g., NCC, REC, or national equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Low and medium voltage electrical systems
- HVAC and mechanical systems
- Safe electrical practices and current regulations
Key Attributes
- Strong problem-solving skills and proficiency in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Experience working within structured change management frameworks.
- Ability to follow and enforce documented procedures and safety protocols.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and resilient under pressure.
- Familiarity with BMS systems and CAFM/PPM platforms.
