Are you a qualified critical care nurse with strong leadership potential who would like to be part of the senior nursing team in a large dynamic and friendly critical care department?

The trust have a combined bed base comprising of 14 level 3s and 12 level 2s. We care for a wide range of adult critically ill medical and surgical emergency and elective cases. The units have an excellent nursing skill mix where you will have the opportunity of working in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

We have a fully comprehensive career pathway offering induction, preceptorship and critical care qualifications as well as advanced clinical skills and leadership opportunities for experienced staff. We have a critical care nurse consultant and clinical nurse educators to support you and there are many opportunities to be involved in service improvement and research projects.

This position requires a fixed rotation between Doncaster Critical Care and Bassetlaw Intensive Care Unit, this is essential to this position.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Band 7's, Matron, Lead Nurse in managing staff and resources to meet the fluctuating workload of the Critical Care service across all sites. To ensure that the care delivered to patients, and their families, is maintained to the highest standard.

They will provide Clinical Leadership, and demonstrate extensive clinical expertise and experience, in order to advise and support colleagues of all grades in the management of critically ill patients.

Maintain the safe running of the units in the absence of the band 7.

Knowledge & Experience
  • Extensive critical care knowledge & skills (mechanical ventilation, CVVH/CITRATE, haemodynamic monitoring)
  • Evidence of learning and development in line with NMC requirements
  • Up to date knowledge of professional issues.
  • Experience of working in a supervisory role.
  • Evidence of management skills.
  • Completion of leadership / management programme.
Qualifications & Training
  • RN adult with current NMC registration
  • Bachelors degree in nursing/health or equivalent academic credits
  • Completion of specialist academic Critical Care modules or equivalent
  • Comprehensive competency framework documented.
  • Mentoring & assessing qualification or equivalent or equivalent experience
  • ALS / ILS
