Are you an experienced Critical Care Nurse looking for a band 6 post in the South West of England? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the band 6 team on the Neuro/Trauma ICU at University Hospital Plymouth. We are looking for both Advanced Registered Nurses and Junior Sisters/CN at band 6.

For Critical Care nurses who have recently completed the ICU course we are pleased to offer 'Advanced RN' bd 6 posts. In this role you commence onto our Team Leader progression pathway.

Demonstrably experienced Bd 6s will join our team of Jnr Srs / CNs as a team leader. In this role you will take charge of the unit on a regular basis and be recognised as a positive, professional, and motivating role model for junior colleagues.

On Pencarrow patients are admitted with multiple injuries, acute brain injuries, spinal injuries and require multi-system support. We also manage a wide range of GICU patients offering a broad range of experiences. If you are highly motivated and have demonstrable experience as an ICU RN, we would like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

To be recognised as a clinical expert within the critical care environment, co-ordinating the delivery of high standard nursing care following individual assessment of each patient & implementation of care plans, utilising all resources to provide excellence in practice.

As a Jnr Sister & shift leader you will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of the high standard care we are proud of, acting as an exemplary senior nurse role model. As a team leader you will be recognised as a positive, professional & motivating role model for junior colleagues whilst ensuring a supportive learning environment for continuing education.

To ensure that patients are always cared for in a safe environment & provide expert clinical advice as needed.

To be responsible for meeting the NMC requirements in line with the Code of Professional Conduct for their scope of responsibility.

Job responsibilities
  • Ensure high standards of clinical practice in accordance with agreed policies, procedures and standards.
  • Provide and deliver a high standard of nursing care by initiating and co-ordinating the comprehensive assessment, planning, and evaluating of individual patient needs based on evidence and use of relevant nursing models.
  • Coordinate, report and document any relevant nursing/patient needs, communicating changes with other health care professionals with ongoing responsibility for patient care as they occur.
  • Possess key skills in patient management to assist medical staff in the complex assessment, resuscitation and frequent review of critically ill patients.

Advanced haemodynamic (invasive and non-invasive) monitoring, neurological monitoring, dialysis machines (Citrate filters), institute ventilation-weaning programmes following specific criteria.

  • Co-ordinate patient transfer (level 1-3 patients) both within the trust and across divisions/organisational boundaries.
  • Ensure effective communication with patients, particularly those that have communication difficulties.
  • Interact and communicate with relatives, ensuring that they have adequate and appropriate information at all times, and offer support and advice where appropriate.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Current RN registration with the NMC.
  • Proven evidence of continued and recent academic clinical development.
  • Post basic course relevant to critical care nursing or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Registered nurse with demonstrable experience at registered nurse in Critical Care.
  • Demonstrably experienced in caring for Neurosurgical and Trauma ICU patients.
  • Recognised as advanced in terms of nursing practice, in aspects of care such as haemodynamic monitoring, ventilation, ICP management.
