Job description

Thames Water keeps water flowing for 15 million customers, delivering 2.6 billion litres through 32,000 km of pipes every day. Behind the scenes, our most critical assets—the infrastructure that keeps taps running and wastewater treated—need careful monitoring and management to prevent failure and disruption. That’s where you come in as a Critical Asset Engineer.

What you’ll be doing as a Critical Asset Engineer

As a Critical Asset Coordinator, you’ll be the key link between engineering, operations, and risk teams, ensuring our most essential assets are properly maintained and protected. You’ll keep our Critical Assets Register up to date, review performance data, and provide insights that shape long-term investment decisions.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing our Critical Assets Register, identifying key assets and maintaining oversight of their status.
  • Reviewing asset performance, assessing risks, and ensuring maintenance aligns with business needs.
  • Collaborating with key teams across Asset Management, Operations, and Capital Delivery to prioritise investment and maintenance strategies.
  • Driving improvements by ensuring our business processes and asset management activities provide strong control.
  • Reporting insights and findings to help shape decisions that impact millions of customers.

Base location: Hybrid - Reading, Clearwater Court, RG1 8DB.

Working pattern or hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday (36 hours per week).

What you should bring to the role:
  • A proactive approach with strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • High attention to detail with strong IT skills (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Degree-level education (or equivalent) in Engineering.
  • Experience in the water or utilities industry is a plus.
