Criminology Graduate Opportunity - Gang Prevention - Restorative Practice - Mental Health - Education and Training - Dorking

This role is ideal for a Psychology or Criminology graduate with aspirations in Criminal Justice and Probation. The position focuses on working with vulnerable young people in a challenging school setting for boys with trauma and mental health needs. The start date is flexible around university graduation, with a focus on a May 25 start.

Role Details
  1. Position: Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
  2. Location: Dorking
  3. Salary: £89+ per day PAYE
  4. Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
  5. Students: Classes of 6-8 students aged 9-16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs, including SEMH, ADHD, Asperger's, OCD, Dyslexia, and related challenges.
  6. Training: MAPA and ABA training provided.
Responsibilities
  • Supporting students through restorative practices and a holistic approach to learning.
  • Focusing on recovering from trauma and developing personal, functional, and vocational skills.
  • Implementing positive reinforcement and restorative strategies to support students with EHCPs and SEMH needs.
  • Helping to raise academic attainment across core subjects like maths and English, as well as vocational subjects such as computing, hairdressing, PE, and performing arts.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Ideal for graduates with a background or interest in Psychology or Criminology.
  • Experience in similar settings is advantageous but not mandatory; a genuine motivation to work with vulnerable young people is essential.
  • Empathy, pragmatism, and an understanding of trauma-informed practices are key qualities.
