Job summary

Douglas Scott Global Recruitment is seeking a Duty Solicitor to join a busy Criminal Defence team in Greater Manchester. You will provide advice and representation at police stations under the Duty Solicitor Scheme, manage a varied caseload, and conduct advocacy in the Magistrates' Court.

The role offers a competitive basic salary up to £40,000 with overtime, long‑term career prospects, ongoing training, and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor with criminal defence experience.
• Duty Solicitor accreditation is essential.
• Experience undertaking police station attendances.
• Comfortable handling Magistrates' Court matters.
• Strong communication and client care skills.
• Ability to manage a busy caseload effectively.
• Keen to develop their career within a respected criminal law team.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice and representation to clients at police stations under the Duty Solicitor Scheme.
• Manage a varied caseload from initial instruction through to conclusion.
• Conduct advocacy in the Magistrates' Court.
• Prepare cases for trial and liaise with Counsel on Crown Court matters.
• Advise clients on all aspects of criminal law and procedure.
• Build strong relationships with clients and deliver excellent levels of client care.
• Participate in out-of-hours and duty rota work as required.
