Job description

Motor Crime Defence & Regulatory Solicitor - Manchester - £50k

Our client, a leading international firm, is keen to recruit a qualified solicitor with experience in defending motor crime, inquests, and regulatory matters. This role is based in its modern City Centre office in Manchester.

The team primarily deals with motor crime, nursing/care sector, and health & safety cases (insurer and private client).

This is a technical, client-facing role for a well-rounded lawyer, who will have a keen interest in building client relationships through training, mentoring, and delivering first-class legal solutions to complex problems.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Review and analyze prosecution evidence and consider implications for lay clients or companies.
  2. Draft statements of insured/witnesses.
  3. Review client evidence—obtaining, collating, indexing, cross-referencing with own and prosecution statements, and summarizing evidence for lead file handlers.
  4. Liaise with Court, Coroner's Office, CQC, Police, HSE, or relevant regulators.
  5. Instruct and liaise with experts—summarize expert evidence, serve reports.
  6. Serve defence case statements, sentencing bundles, and mitigation bundles.
  7. Draft written submissions after liaising with clients.
  8. Communicate with clients regarding prosecution cases and disclosure requirements.
  9. Review transcripts of evidence.
  10. Organize and attend conferences and meetings, draft notes, and follow strategies set by lead lawyers.
  11. Represent clients at interviews under caution.
  12. Attend trials and inquests with counsel—draft notes of evidence, outcomes, and sentencing.
  13. Arrange meetings, site visits, and expert appointments.
  14. Collate evidence and prepare bundles.
  15. Review medical records, post-mortem reports, and CCTV footage.
  16. Attend sites, take photos, and draft basic statements.
  17. Research relevant HSE guidelines.
  18. Research clients' corporate structures, procedures, risk assessments, and documents.
  19. Ensure compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct.
  20. Prepare written reports and advice for clients.
