Criminal Law Paralegal – Not Just a Job. A Mission

Location: Doncaster, South Yorkshire

Jordans Solicitors LLP is searching for a standout Criminal Law Paralegal to join our specialist team tackling miscarriages of justice and prison law cases. You’ll work directly with Mark Newby, a highly experienced Miscarriage of Justice solicitor. This is your chance to gain experience in fighting miscarriage of justice cases from the routine to highly challenging and complex appeals, together with the opportunity to gain training in Prison Law.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting miscarriage of justice investigations
  • Meeting and interviewing Applicants and their witnesses
  • Working on cases under supervision
  • Attending Hearings and Conferences with Appeal Counsel
  • Handling prison law matters and client visits
  • Preparing casework for appeals and judicial reviews
  • Working on cases that reach the Court of Appeal, CCRC, Supreme Court or even the European Court of Human Rights

This Is Not a Role for the Ordinary

Essential Requirements:

  • Criminal law experience or demonstrable passion for justice evidenced by your CV
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel for prison visits and client meetings across the UK
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and communication skills
  • Ability to digest large volumes of material
  • Based in or with strong ties to South Yorkshire or North Yorkshire (because our experience is that if you are relocating for further afield it will not work)
  • Be able to work outside of normal office hours (we regularly work on cases or discuss cases remotely out of office hours)
