Job description
Overview

Supporting your overall wellbeing with counselling, mental health support, life management, medical guidance, and helpful resources. Olivia is our friendly virtual assistant, available to support you navigate through the application process 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it's late at night or over the weekend, she's on hand to answer your questions, guide you through the application process, or help you find what you need.

While Olivia can't make hiring decisions (those are always made by real human recruiters), Olivia's here to ensure your recruitment journey stays smooth and accessible—anytime you need. Olivia is our friendly virtual assistant designed to help streamline parts of the recruitment experience. Olivia can answer common questions, guide candidates through application steps, arrange interviews and provide timely updates, all to help make the application process smoother and easier to navigate.

Before we can employ you, we are required to verify your eligibility to work in the UK & Ireland. Acceptable documents to evidence your right to work can be found here. You'll need to provide original documents such as a valid passport or a valid UK/Ireland visa (with a college letter listing term dates, where applicable). Only original documents will be accepted.

Interview and Prospects

The interview is an absolutely vital part of our hiring process. Without it, we wouldn't get a proper picture of what kind of person you are, and whether you'd be a great fit at McDonalds. The interview will normally involve a set of questions around values and attitudes and will allow the interviewee to really show us why they're the right person for the job. For instance, we might ask for an example of times you've worked as part of a team and how you made a difference to that team. In short, we look for people who have the right attitudes and behaviours to deliver a great customer and colleague experience; we hire for qualities and potential, rather than qualifications.

Our employees tend to stick around. Partly because it's a fun, sociable and flexible place to work, but also because there are opportunities to progress into roles with more responsibility. In fact, 9 out of 10 of our restaurant managers, and 1 in 5 of our franchisees, started out as crew members behind the counter or in the kitchens. We've also been recognised as a leading employer over the years, offering award-winning learning, nationally-recognised qualifications, comprehensive benefits and flexible working arrangements, as well as a well-proven career path.

Role and Responsibilities
  • As a Crew Member, you'll make it happen, whether you're preparing food, serving on the till or being out in the dining areas looking after our customers' needs.
  • Provide friendly, fast and accurate service.
  • Complete tasks and activities in line with training, company guidelines and management direction.
  • Follow all workplace safety, security and food hygiene procedures.
  • Treat all customers and colleagues with courtesy and respect, working as a supportive team member.
Benefits
  • Holiday pay
  • Meal allowance
  • Employee discounts from top high street and online brands and much more
  • Premium Shift
  • If you work overnights, between the hours of midnight and 5am, you'll earn extra pay.
  • Every team member, including hourly-paid workers, earns above the national minimum wage.
  • Range of benefits including holiday and sick pay, and employee discounts that offer savings at over 1,600 retailers.
Interview Scheduling and Sustainability

If you are unable to make any of the interview slots offered to you in the recruitment process, you can get back in touch with Olivia and she will help you rearrange to find a date suitable for you.

Does McDonald's have any sustainability plans or pledges in place? At McDonald's, we are working hard to take the necessary steps towards a more sustainable business and future. In 2021, we launched our first (and certainly not the last) net-zero restaurant. Watch this video to find out more about our new, ground-breaking store!

Pay, Shifts and Attire

How often do I get paid? This can vary depending on whether you work in a franchised or company owned restaurant. Typically, it can be every 2 or 4 weeks for hourly paid employees, and monthly for employees on a dedicated salary. What type of shifts will I be doing and how many? Our restaurant hours range from location to location, but over half of our restaurants are open 24 hours a day. We schedule most shifts to suit you, but also take working time legislation and our business needs into account. What should I wear to work? Just one of the benefits of working at McDonald's is that you don't have to worry about what to wear to work, we will supply you with a uniform.

Does McDonald's promote its employees? Definitely. We highly value talent and always aim to encourage employees to remain within our business. To put it into perspective, half of our Executive Team started in restaurants. At McDonald's, there are no limits to how far or fast you can progress.
