Job Summary

Reporting into the Head of Credit and Country Risk, this role is responsible for the review and assessment of credit applications and supporting the effective and efficient management of the Bank's Credit Risk profile through development of appropriate Credit Risk management policies.

Standing presenter at the Bank's Credit Risk Committee.

Delegated personal approval authority.

Key Work Outputs and Accountabilities
  • Review and recommend/decline/approve applications for credit across all products offered by the Bank.
  • Work in partnership with Risk operations to ensure effective end to end credit processes.
  • Own the policies for ensuring appropriate Country and Credit risk management in line with the Bank's risk appetite.
  • Responsible for identification, assessment, management and reporting of Country and Credit risk.
  • Support in management of the Bank's Country and Credit grading methodologies and associated tools.
  • Responsible for ensuring that new applications and renewals are correctly identified, quantified and managed on a timely basis.
  • Support in review of MI relating to SICR, Watchlist, DCF, NPLs and wider watchlist reporting, making recommendations on strategy.
  • Responsible for initial review of risk concentrations, delinquent and impaired accounts and proposing provisioning levels.
  • Manages, maintains and develops relationships with internal departments, clients and counterparties, and other stakeholders such as regulators and auditors.
  • Provide training and support as required in the Bank's Credit Risk management frameworks and policies.
  • Contributes to the Bank's key Regulatory and reporting documents and provides independent review of Regulatory returns.
  • Works closely with other stakeholders to ensure policies and reporting requirements are appropriately operationalised

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Superior credit application review and analytical skills with an in-depth understanding of all related risks including relevant accounting, legal and regulatory issues in FIs, Corporates and Real Estate.
  • Strong academic credentials in the field of Finance, Economics, or Business Administration, or other related field, ideally to the graduate level.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar role, with experience in structuring and mitigating risk in complex transactions.
  • Previous lending authority would be an advantage.
  • Exposure to Emerging Markets in Africa and Middle East would be an added advantage.

Language skills in French and/or Arabic would be advantageous.
