We are seeking a proactive Finance Assistant to join a busy finance team in Wellingborough. The role focuses on credit control and managing outstanding customer accounts, with responsibilities in purchase ledger as well.

You will be confident communicating with customers, resolving invoice queries and ensuring payments are received in a timely manner. A fast-paced environment, ownership of workload, and Excel proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience as finance assistant, credit control or accounts receivable.
• Strong credit control experience and ability to chase debt.
• Some experience with purchase ledger and supplier invoices.
• Confident communicator with professional payment collection approach.
• Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
• Well organised, able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
• Proficient with Excel and finance/accounting systems.
• Proactive team player who can work independently.

Responsabilités

• Proactively manage and chase outstanding customer payments by phone and email.
• Monitor aged debt and follow up overdue accounts promptly.
• Maintain relationships to encourage timely payments.
• Investigate invoice and payment queries and liaise with internal teams.
• Allocate payments and keep account records up to date.
• Reconcile customer accounts and identify discrepancies.
• Escalate overdue/high-risk accounts when needed.
• Support cash flow by minimising debt and debtor days.
• Process supplier invoices accurately and timely.
• Match invoices with purchase orders and delivery notes where applicable.
• Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies.
• Assist with payment runs and general purchase ledger admin.
• Maintain accurate financial records and update the finance system.
• Support month-end procedures and account reconciliations.
