Job summary

Cardiff Council is seeking 2 Creche Assistants to join the Cardiff Parenting and Play Creche Team. Role includes supporting delivery of crèche provision for families attending Parenting Programmes and assisting in childcare for 2–3-year-olds in Flying Start settings across Cardiff.

The post requires CCPLD Level 2, a caring approach to young children, and a valid driving licence for city-wide travel. Part-time, term-time contract with 35 hours per week.

Job description

Cardiff Parenting and Play Services (which includes the creche and childcare team) are part of Cardiff Early Help. Cardiff Parenting Services are strategically led by a Senior Educational Psychologist and include teams that deliver group and individual parenting programmes and interventions, across the whole of Cardiff. We work in community settings, sometimes with families in the home and in accommodation such as hostels.

We have office bases across Cardiff and also have equipment for mobile working.

About the job

As part of a wider expansion of the team an exciting opportunity has become available within our Cardiff Parenting and Play Creche Team.We are looking for 2 Creche Assistants to join our established childcare and creche team within Early Help to work at a variety of settings in the community across Cardiff. The role is varied and successful candidates will support the delivery of quality crèche provision for children whose parents are attending Parenting Programmes. When required you will also assist in the provision of quality childcare and play opportunities for children aged 2 to 3 years at our two Flying Start Childcare settings.

The creche assistants will play a key part in joining an experienced team of staff who provide engaging, child led and fun play experiences primarily for children aged 0-4 years, although we can work with children up to the age of 8. Creches are particularly inclusive of families with children under 4 years of age, they will pro-actively contribute to the creation of welcoming and inclusive environments that are sensitive to the needs of adults and children using our service.

The paid hours are 35 hours a week term time only, applications for job share are welcomed.

What We Are Looking For From You

Essential: a qualification in Children’s Care, Play, Learning & Development (CCPLD minimum Level 2) please see the job description and personal specification for further information

The post holder should have a genuine interest and love of working with children aged under 8 and their families. We often work with service users who are experiencing challenge and trauma, so candidates will need to have a non-judgemental approach, demonstrating kindness, empathy and understanding.

Candidates must have a comprehensive knowledge of the developmental needs of children and be able to deliver information to parents about their child’s development in a sensitive manner, supported by the Creche Leader.

A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is also essential, as the role requires travel across all areas of the city.

This role is part-time at 35 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. The advertised salary is based on a full-time role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). The actual salary will be lower than the advertised salary because of the part-time hours and weeks worked.

This post is temporary until 31st March 2028.
