Job summary

Sky Valley Ambient Computing in London seeks a Creative Technologist/Lead to craft Differ’s voice and experiences. You’ll build playful, publishable posts—memes, data visuals, and interactive toys—that resonate with audiences and trigger conversations.

You’ll set creative direction, lead the Diffluencers program, and design activations that get Differ talked about. You’ll own the brand across social channels and help shape what the product enables next.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to create engaging digital content and experiences.
• Experience leading maker communities or creator programmes.
• Strong taste and ability to explain design decisions to a broad audience.
• Experience in startup or early-stage environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Make posts: memes, toys, data viz and interactive pieces.
• Set the creative direction for Differ posts and featured content.
• Lead the Diffluencers maker programme: recruit, review, and mentor.
• Develop activations, drops, collabs and live events to stimulate chatter.
• Own the Differ brand voice and presence across X, meet-ups and beyond.
• Collaborate with product to anticipate makers’ needs and shape future work.

We're looking for a creative technologist / creative lead to join Sky Valley Ambient Computing, an early-stage, venture-backed startup in London.

We're building infrastructure for adaptive software: software that reshapes itself around whoever's using it.

Our product

Our first product, Differ, explores Software as Content: people make, play and remix small apps the way they make text posts, videos, data viz or memes.

A platform like this lives or dies by what's on it. We need someone to decide what Differ feels like, make the work that shows everyone else what's possible, and build the community of makers who'll make the rest.

What you’ll do

• Make posts. You'll be one of Differ's most prolific makers: memes, toys, jokes, data viz, things that react to the news. Some take an hour, some take a week.
• Set the creative direction. You'll decide what a great Differ post is, what we feature, and what we turn down.
• Lead our makers. You'll run our founding maker programme, the Diffluencers: find and invite creative coders, review their work, give them feedback that makes it better, and keep the group lively.
• Come up with activations. Moments that get Differ talked about: drops, challenges, collabs, live events, remix chains, stunts.
• Own the brand. Voice, look, Diffy, and how Differ shows up on X, at meet-ups and everywhere in between.
• Close the loop with product. You'll see what makers struggle with and what players love before anyone else does, and you'll help shape what we build next.

You make things people want to share. You can name what's funny or delightful about something in a sentence, then make three versions of it before lunch. You know the internet's moods and how fast they change.

• You've made work that spread: something that took off on X, TikTok, Instagram, or wherever your people are.
• You can build. Creative code, web toys, prototypes with AI: whatever gets the idea playable.
• You have strong, opinionated taste, and you can explain it well enough that other people get better.
• You've built or grown a community, run a programme, or brought creators together around something.
• You're comfortable being a public face: posting, hosting, speaking.
• You work across disciplines. Nobody does everything, but maybe you also write, draw, make music, shoot video or design type. Differ is new, and we want people who’ll try things nobody’s tried with it yet.
• Experience working in a small startup team.
• Bonus: You've led a brand, a studio, a zine, or a creative team.

• You'd rather only direct than make.
• You need a brand book before you start.
• You want remote work.
• You need a visa. We can't sponsor one, so you'll need the right to work in the UK.
• You think AI is overhyped and don't want to work with it.
