About us

Royal Museums Greenwich is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House. Each of these sites has a unique identity and a common purpose to serve our communities, through sharing our collections and expertise. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history, and our strategy ‘Charting Our Course’ puts our people at the core of its success. This role is based at the National Maritime Museum but will involve travel to other sites on occasion.

The role

Working within the Engagement team and reporting to the Senior Manager, Community Participation, the Creative Participation Producer will work to interpret British maritime histories through creative responses. This post is responsible for collaboratively developing and delivering creative projects that foster new relationships, develop alternative perspectives and prioritise underrepresented histories. The Creative Participation Producer will enhance access and inclusion for local, national and international creative communities with connections to the collections, themes and sites of Royal Museums Greenwich.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with artists, practitioners and communities in collaboration with colleagues across the museum to champion cultural creativity and intangible practices.
  • Coordinate a year-round programme of creative practitioner residencies.
  • Help to deliver creative large-scale annual events.
  • Ensure projects inspire dialogue and creativity around legacies of empire, environmental change, equity and identity.
  • Contribute towards Royal Museums Greenwich becoming a more dynamic, relevant and representative organisation.
Qualifications and experience
  • Demonstrable experience delivering a range of creative participatory engagement for diverse audiences.
  • Experience building strong and sustainable partnerships with artists, creative practitioners and communities.
  • Experience of project administration, management and budget control.
  • Experience recruiting and managing freelancers and/or volunteers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organisational skills and ability to work to deadlines across various projects.
  • Strong interest in the subjects and themes of the collections and sites, with a commitment to championing multiple perspectives and drawing contemporary relevance.
Role details

This is a full time, permanent role in Band 5 - Management and Proficient Specialists. Core hours of work will be 36 per week, 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, with an additional hour to be worked as agreed upon with management, although due to the nature of the role, some flexibility may be required. This role includes some evening and weekend working with time off in lieu.

Salary: £36,900 per annum
