Job summary

TLTP Education is seeking a passionate Design Technology Teacher for a specialist school in Princes Risborough (HP27), supporting students aged 11–18 with SEMH and diverse needs. Deliver engaging practical lessons and differentiate to meet abilities.

You will work with teaching assistants, contribute to EHCPs, and provide a safe, motivating learning environment that develops confidence and practical skills while promoting inclusion and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• QTS or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Design Technology knowledge appropriate for secondary level.
• Experience teaching DT at secondary level is desirable.
• Experience with SEND/SEMH or additional needs is desirable.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to differentiate and adapt lessons to various learning needs.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, practical and differentiated DT lessons for students aged 11–18.
• Adapt lessons and resources to meet individual needs, abilities and learning styles.
• Teach a range of practical and creative DT skills, encouraging independence and confidence.
• Create a safe, structured and engaging practical learning environment.
• Use practical projects and hands-on activities to promote creativity and problem solving.
• Monitor, assess and record student progress and next steps.
• Develop personalised learning opportunities for students with SEMH and additional needs.
• Build positive relationships with students and promote positive behaviour.
• Support students to develop transferable skills: teamwork, communication, organisation, independence.
• Collaborate with Teaching Assistants and support staff for consistent provision.
• Contribute to EHCP outcomes and individual learning plans where appropriate.
• Maintain high expectations and celebrate achievements.
• Contribute to meetings, training and school life.
• Ensure health and safety in practical lessons.
