Job summary

Coventry City Council’s Adult Education Service invites an experienced Dressmaking and Machine Sewing Tutor to deliver practical sewing courses to adult learners across Coventry. You will plan, prepare and teach sessions on garment construction, pattern interpretation and finishing techniques, while promoting inclusivity and supporting learners to achieve their goals.

Qualifications

• Relevant teaching qualification at level 3 or above.
• Experience of teaching dressmaking and machine sewing to adults.
• Ability to inspire learners from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience delivering accredited textile qualifications is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality machine sewing, dressmaking and textile courses for adults.
• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging sessions that meet the needs of learners with varying levels of experience and ability.
• Teach a range of techniques including garment construction, pattern interpretation, fabric selection, alterations, repairs, upcycling and finishing techniques.
• Support learners to develop practical sewing, creative design and textile skills while building confidence and independence.
• Create an inclusive, welcoming and safe learning environment that promotes participation, achievement and wellbeing.
• Assess learner progress, set individual learning targets, provide constructive feedback and celebrate achievement.
• Deliver accredited textile qualifications where required and complete associated assessment, moderation and quality assurance processes.
