Overview

This is a hybrid role which means you will perform your duties across more than one location, currently predominantly home working. You will be required to attend events or travel to other bases or locations as agreed and deemed necessary. You will be assigned a contractual base location at one of NHSBT’s main centres closest to your home address. The specific base location will be confirmed after the final interview and mutually agreed upon with the line manager.

Job Summary

We\'re seeking a talented Creative Digital Designer to join our dynamic Brand Communications team at NHS Blood & Transplant. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference by creating compelling digital content that promotes life-saving donations and supports our mission to save and improve lives.

Working closely with our Brand & Marketing departments, you\'ll be responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating online marketing assets across all media channels whilst maintaining our brand identity and reputation.

Main duties
  • Acting as brand digital development specialist for the organisation, ensuring we maintain brand identity and reputation. This includes the tone of voice as well as the visual identity of the organisation.
  • Offering advice to a number of business areas across NHS Blood & Transplant and work collaboratively with colleagues in those business areas and the communications directorate to promote public awareness of and support for all forms of donations and also help with delivering our strategic objectives.
  • Confident to challenge colleagues where content or design do not meet NHS identity or digital guidelines and ensure that the NHS Blood & Transplant brand is always maintained
  • Creative and developing effective design concepts for digital and off-line services to meet customers’ requirements to promote all forms of altruistic donation within NHS Blood and Transplant, working to tight deadlines.
  • Producing regular social media assets (for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, new/emerging channels/platforms to present facts/stats/key messages in a creative and eye-catching way.
  • Ensuring all designs created internally and externally are compliant with NHS Blood & Transplant brand identity and digital brand guidelines and meet web standards.
  • Working alongside the entire digital spectrum – social media, blogs and more – to create world-class design and communications.
  • Supporting creative art working and brand designs with the senior designer, including creating concepts, layouts for print ready artwork which will reflect onto social media.
  • Producing animations, gifs, graphics and video end frames for campaigns.

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

About You
Experience and Knowledge
  • Experience of working with web and mobile application design packages
  • Experience of designing digital assets from concept to artwork
  • Experience of delivering digital design and production requirements, including specialist design in social media creatives
  • Experience of designing off-line assets from concept to artwork
  • Experience of developing and consistently applying brand visual identity and digital guidelines and managing brand digital assets in a large organisation
  • Knowledge and experience of working with relevant legislation (Data Protection etc.)
  • Experience of working with social media channels and responsive design across channels
  • Knowledge of web accessibility rules and guidelines
  • Proficiency with industry standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite, with advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop and After Effects
  • Experience of creating a range of animation for campaigns. Good knowledge of Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Premier, Illustrator, and Indesign (all on PC)
  • A good basic understanding of typography and design layouts
  • Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Qualifications And Training
  • Degree in digital design or communications related subject OR significant demonstrable experience in a relevant field to degree level
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD) or digital engagement such as blogging

  • Band 6: £38,682 - £46,580 per annum
  • NHSBT promotes flexible working opportunities where the role will allow.
  • 27 days annual leave (pro rata for part-time) plus Bank Holidays, increasing to 29 days after 5 years’ service and to 33 days after 10 years.
