Creative Copywriter Role at Sports Direct

Working in partnership with the Creative Team and wider Marketing Team, the Creative Copywriter will ideate, develop, and deliver copy across the Sports Direct ecosystem. Guided by the Sports Direct brand strategy and tone of voice, they will be responsible for copy and content curation across sports and lifestyle categories, including football, running, training, outdoor, and USC.

This role involves campaign ideation, messaging, creating organic social content, and delivering copy for paid social, app/site, and CRM. The Creative Copywriter is the first point of contact for copy across Sports Direct and will own, curate, and deliver the new Sports Direct editorial platform.

This position is ideal for a sports-obsessed writer eager to join an energetic, ambitious creative team that values simplicity and quality work.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Interpret creative briefs to develop and produce creative concepts, from ideation to execution, in collaboration with the creative and marketing teams, driven by insights and marketing objectives.
  2. Write high-engagement social media content that reflects the brand voice and tone.
  3. Assist in writing and editing scripts with directors and the video team.
  4. Interview athletes, influencers, and campaign subjects across various touchpoints.
  5. Curate content for the Sports Direct editorial platform, guided by insights, commercial priorities, cultural awareness, and SEO knowledge.
  6. Review and edit campaign proposal decks prepared by you and the team before sharing with key brand partners such as Nike, adidas, Puma, and Under Armour.
  7. Create punchy and disruptive OOH copy concepts for various formats, including 48 & 6 sheets, as part of broader campaigns and reactive moments.
  8. Update website and company materials with new information.
  9. Write original content and edit materials for internal marketing and communications.
  10. Edit your own and others’ writing.

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing skills, capable of adapting style to different audiences and directions.
  • Strong listening skills to understand business needs and develop effective project briefs.
  • Ability to understand target audiences and craft relevant content.
  • Good research and analytical skills to grasp subject matter accurately.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Creative thinking for new ideas and innovative messaging.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly with a positive attitude.
  • Attention to detail, including proofreading skills.
  • Understanding of SEO principles and their application to content.
  • Solution-oriented mindset.
  • A passion for sports and staying current with sporting news and trends.
