Job summary

HEYN ENGINEERING (NI) LIMITED in Belfast Metropolitan Area is seeking a Crane Engineer. This full-time on-site role focuses on inspections, maintenance and repairs of cranes and lifting equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation at client sites.

You will diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, perform scheduled servicing, prepare reports and compliance documents, and support installation and commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with cranes, lifting equipment, and heavy equipment in industrial or port environments.
  • Strong skills in inspection, including safety checks, fault identification, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Proficiency in maintenance and repair activities covering mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.
  • Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC/HND, or degree in mechanical or electrical engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Good understanding of applicable lifting regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals, and use diagnostic tools and equipment effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Solid communication skills and a customer-focused approach when interacting with clients and colleagues.
  • Willingness to work on-site in varying weather conditions and occasionally outside standard hours as operational needs require.

Role Description

The Crane Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in the Belfast Metropolitan Area. This position involves carrying out inspections, maintenance, and repairs on cranes and associated lifting equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, performing scheduled servicing, completing safety checks, and responding to breakdowns. The Crane Engineer will prepare accurate reports and compliance documentation, support installation and commissioning activities, and liaise with clients and internal teams to plan work and minimize equipment downtime. The role also includes contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and adhering to all relevant health and safety standards and regulations.
