Location: Aaron House, 40 Rosneath Gardens, Ballyoran, Dundonald

Salary Scale: £12.60 per hour (no NVQ)

£12.66 per hour with NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care

£12.70 per hour with NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care

Hours: 33 hours (Night Duty)

Responsible to: Service Manager

The Care Assistant will carry out a high standard of care and assist to meet residents’ individual needs within a caring environment.

About The Role

What you will be doing

To attend to the personal needs of residents on a daily basis, with respect and dignity for the individual.

To carry out a high standard of care and any daily living programmes as directed by Senior Staff.

To treat all matters relating to the Home with strict confidentiality.

To maintain a safe environment by ensuring adherence to appropriate Health and Safety and Fire procedures.

To keep appropriate records, as directed by Senior Staff.

To bring any areas of concern to the attention of Senior Staff.

To report all accidents/incidents to senior staff and record as directed.

To be aware of emergency procedures.

To accompany residents on outings, holidays, to attend appointments.

To act as a named worker for designated residents, under the direction of Senior Staff.

To assist residents to make choices and encourage independence at all times.

To carry out day care programmes for those residents attending our day care unit as directed by the Day Care Worker.

To attend training courses and staff meetings as directed by the Manager.

To undertake day and night duties and assist in housekeeping tasks as required by the home.

Any other duties as reasonable required by the Home Manager.

All members of staff will be required to be flexible in their work and co-operate with their colleagues to ensure the highest standard of care.

In carrying out the duties of Care Assistant the person will require the following:

To be in sympathy with the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

To have integrity, honesty and patience.

To have an understanding of the needs of the residents in a residential situation.

To have an even temperament.

To have an ability to treat residents as individuals and tolerate their likes and dislikes.

To have an ability to work as a member of the caring team.

To respect the authority and direction of the senior members of staff in the Home

Evidence an understanding of and respect for the needs of people with learning and physical disabilitiesWilling to work additional hours to fulfil the requirements of the Home

Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland

Willing to maintain registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council

Awareness of health and safety practices within a working environment

Willing to undertake relevant training e.g. induction training, or NVQ / QCF level 2

Proficiency in understanding, communicating and writing in English to level required by the duties of the post

Basic numeracy required by the duties of the post (as endorsed by appropriate qualification or use of numeracy skills in a work or home environment).
