Job summary

AMD in Cambridge is seeking a seasoned CPU Core Physical Design Engineer to lead the physical design team in delivering next-generation microprocessor cores. You will balance Power, Performance and Area while aligning with business needs and project timelines.

You will guide senior engineers, collaborate across CPU cores teams, and drive floorplanning, timing, and power targets, leveraging AI tools to boost team productivity and design quality.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience leading junior engineers.
• Experience in high-speed microprocessor designs.
• Full-Chip floor planning and timing experience.
• Knowledge of DRC/LVS at partition or full-chip level.

Responsibilities

• Primary technical contact for CPU core focus area.
• Pro-actively works with peers in technology and design reviews.
• Quantify impacts of technology issues in design reviews.
• Work cross functionally with CPU Cores team to identify and assess complex technical issues/risks, and develop solutions.
• Work closely with Design teams for Area and Floorplan refinement, Timing targets, Power targets.
• Use AI to enhance your own productivity and contribute to building Agentic AI tools.

CPU Core Physical Design Engineer

The Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Physical Design Engineer with expertise in Microprocessor Design and Design Techniques. You are meticulous about Power, Performance and Area while balancing the business needs. This senior role will stretch you as you lead the physical design team to help create new design for AMD.

The Person:

• You have excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrated through technical publications, presentations, trainings, executive briefings, etc.
• You are highly adept at collaboration among top-thinkers and engineers alike, ready to mentor and guide, and help to elevate the knowledge and skills of the team around you.
• You are experienced in leading teams of senior engineers

Key Responsibilities

• Primary technical contact for your focus area
• Pro-actively works with peers in technology and design reviews
• Quantify impacts of technology issues in design reviews
• Work cross functionally across CPU Cores team to identify and assess complex technical issues/risks, and develop solutions
• Work closely with Design teams for Area and Floorplan refinement, Timing targets, Power targets.
• Use AI to enhance your own productivity and contribute in the building of Agentic AI tools to improve productivity of the larger team.

Preferred Experience

• Experience technically leading junior engineers.
• Experienced in high-speed microprocessor designs
• Full-Chip Floor planning
• Full-Chip Timing
• DRC/LVS at partition and/or Full-Chip Level
• Ability to create new design ideas and flow
• Knowledge of current sub-micro technologies
• Solid understanding Physical Design tools and flows or custom circuit design

Preferred Education And Experience

• Electrical Engineering Degree with 5+ years of experience preferred
