Job summary

AMD in Cambridge seeks a seasoned Physical Design Leader with expertise in microprocessor design. You will balance power, performance and area while guiding a team of senior engineers to create cutting-edge CPUs.

Excellent communication and mentorship are essential as you work across design and technology peers. You will drive full-chip floorplanning, timing and DRC/LVS, shaping new design flows and leveraging AI to boost productivity across the CPU cores group.

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical teams in microprocessor design and development.
• Proven track record in high-speed microprocessors and full-chip design.
• Experience with floorplanning and timing for full-chip designs.
• Hands-on with DRC/LVS at partition and full-chip levels.
• Ability to create new design ideas and efficient flows.
• Knowledge of current sub-micron technologies and processes.
• Strong understanding of Physical Design tools and flows.

Responsibilities

• Primary technical contact for your focus area.
• Lead design reviews and cross-functional collaboration.
• Quantify impacts of design issues in reviews.
• Represent CPU Cores to executive management from a technical perspective.
• Work with CPU Cores to assess complex issues/risks and craft solutions.
• Collaborate with design teams on area, floorplan, timing and power targets.
• Leverage AI to boost productivity and help build Agentic AI tools.

The Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Physical Design Leader with expertise in Microprocessor Design and Design Techniques. You are meticulous about Power, Performance and Area while balancing the business needs. This senior role will stretch you as you lead the physical design team to help create new design for AMD.

The Person:

• You have excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrated through technical publications, presentations, trainings, executive briefings, etc.
• You are highly adept at collaboration among top-thinkers and engineers alike, ready to mentor and guide, and help to elevate the knowledge and skills of the team around you.
• You are experienced in leading teams of senior engineers

Key Responsibilities:

• Primary technical contact for your focus area
• Pro-actively works with peers in technology and design reviews
• Quantify impacts of technology issues in design reviews
• Represent the CPU Cores to executive management from a technical perspective.
• Work cross functionally across CPU Cores team to identify and assess complex technical issues/risks, and develop solutions
• Work closely with Design teams for Area and Floorplan refinement, Timing targets, Power targets.
• Use AI to enhance your own productivity and contribute in the building of Agentic AI tools to improve productivity of the larger team.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience leading technical teams
• Experienced in high-speed microprocessor designs
• Full-Chip Floor planning
• Full-Chip Timing
• DRC/LVS at partition and/or Full-Chip Level
• Ability to create new design ideas and flow
• Knowledge of current sub-micro technologies
• Solid understanding Physical Design tools and flows or custom circuit design

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Electrical Engineering Degree with 5+ years of experience preferred
