Rate:- PAYE: £21.19 per hour
- Umbrella: £27.13 per hour

Reporting to: Detective Sergeant / Deputy Controller – ROCU DSU
Overview We are currently recruiting experienced individuals for the role of
Covert Human Intelligence Source (CHIS) Handler to work within the
Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), with a focus on tackling
Organised Immigration Crime.
This is a high-impact, sensitive role requiring exceptional discretion, a deep understanding of covert operations, and the ability to identify, recruit, and manage covert sources.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct high-level research to identify potential CHIS candidates
- Recruit and manage CHIS in support of Organised Immigration Crime investigations
- Produce clear, accurate, and high-quality intelligence reports
- Ensure strict compliance with RIPA 2000, CPIA 1996, ECHR, and other relevant legislation
- Maintain the highest level of operational security at all times
- Participate in out-of-hours duties and provide broader support to the Dedicated Source Unit as required
Job Activities- Work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and extended shifts where operational needs demand
- Be part of a regular on-call rota
- Maintain professional competencies including CHIS accreditation, staff protection, and first aid
- Respond to changing operational demands at short notice
Essential Requirements- Current or recent CHIS Handler accreditation
- Strong operational knowledge of RIPA, CPIA, and associated legislation
- Experience in managing covert sources within high-risk environments
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to achieve and maintain the necessary security vetting
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with strong integrity and discretion
Additional Information- The post will be based at a secure, discreet premises located on the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk border
- The role is offered as part of a regional team within the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU)
