Job Title: Cover Teacher – English

A well-regarded secondary school in Newham is looking for a committed and enthusiastic Cover Teacher for English to step in on a short-term, full-time basis from September. This is an exciting opportunity for someone confident in delivering English lessons and supporting students in developing their reading, writing, and communication skills.

Whether you're an aspiring teacher or an experienced educator looking for flexible work, this role offers a rewarding chance to make an impact in the classroom without long-term planning responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pre-prepared English lessons across KS3 and KS4

  • Maintain a positive and focused classroom environment

  • Encourage student participation, creativity, and critical thinking

  • Record attendance and report any issues to relevant staff

  • Support student learning by clarifying tasks and offering guidance

  • Be available to cover additional subjects where required

You’ll be a strong candidate if you:

  • Have previous experience as a cover supervisor, tutor, or teacher in a secondary setting

  • Possess a good understanding of English Language and Literature at secondary level

  • Can manage classroom behaviour effectively and adapt to different groups

  • Are approachable, organised, and enthusiastic about student progress

  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or are willing to apply for one)

  • Are committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of students
