Job description

Job Title: Cover Supervisor - PRU / SEMH Specialist with Woodwork & Construction Skills
Location: Teesside
Start Date: ASAP
Working Days: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 16:00pm
Salary: 110 - 130 per day (depending on experience)

Empowering Learning is a market-leading education recruitment company, currently working in partnership with a well-established SEMH Special School in Teesside. We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and confident Cover Supervisor with experience in PRU settings and a background in woodwork and construction. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity offering the chance to make a real difference to the lives of students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

The Role

  • Deliver and supervise pre-prepared lessons in the absence of teaching staff.
  • Lead and support practical sessions in woodwork, basic construction, and vocational skills.
  • Engage students in hands-on learning to build confidence, discipline, and motivation.
  • Support SEMH learners both in group and 1:1 settings, using effective de-escalation strategies.
  • Provide consistency, structure, and positive role modelling to help students progress both academically and emotionally.
  • Work closely with the teaching team, pastoral staff, and behaviour leads to deliver personalised support.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience in a PRU or SEMH school setting.
  • Be confident managing behaviours that challenge.
  • Have knowledge of woodwork/construction or experience delivering vocational sessions.
  • Be calm, resilient, and passionate about helping young people thrive in alternative education.
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to the needs of the students and the school.
  • Ideally hold a relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 TA, HLTA, Construction/Woodwork Training), though practical experience is equally valued.
