Job summary

The Saint John Henry Newman School in Stevenage is seeking an enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to keep learning moving when teachers are absent. You will supervise classes, promote positive behaviour, support pupil wellbeing and assist with school life and events.

The role requires GCSE English and Maths (C/4+), experience with secondary pupils, good communication and IT skills, and a commitment to safeguarding and the Catholic ethos. Permanent contract on 32.5 hours/week, term-time only.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above or equivalent.
• Experience working with secondary-aged pupils in a paid or voluntary role.
• Good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and IT systems; willing to learn new systems.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and adapt to changing needs.
• Positive, resilient and flexible; able to work independently and in a team.
• Strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and pupil welfare.
• Excellent punctuality, attendance and professional standards.

• Stay organised: Register attendance, provide feedback to staff and assist with administrative tasks when required.
• Be part of the team: Work closely with teachers, colleagues and the Cover Manager to support school operations.
• Support school life: Assist with educational visits, school events and first aid cover after training.

Salary: HCC H5.09 - £28,153 FTE, pro rata
