Job summary

Aspire People is seeking confident Cover Supervisors to work across secondary and SEN schools in the Cambridge area. Start date is immediate, with opportunities for long-term and day-to-day supply assignments.

You will supervise classes, deliver pre-set plans, and support pupils with learning while maintaining a safe, inclusive environment. We welcome candidates with a degree and/or experience in education, teaching, tutoring, or youth work.

Qualifications

  • Degree holder preferred in any subject, though core subjects are advantageous.
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, or classroom settings is beneficial.
  • Experience supporting or managing behaviour in schools or youth settings is helpful.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes during short-term absences.
  • Deliver pre-set lesson plans and keep pupils on task.
  • Manage classroom behaviour per school policies.
  • Support pupils with learning and answer questions as appropriate.
  • Work across mainstream and SEN environments, fostering an inclusive learning atmosphere.

Job Title: Cover Supervisor (Secondary & SEN Schools)

Overview

We are looking for confident, adaptable and reliable Cover Supervisors to work across a range of secondary and SEN (Special Educational Needs) schools in the Cambridge area. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with young people and have experience in education or similar settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff
  • Deliver pre-set lesson plans and ensure pupils remain on task
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Support pupils with their learning and respond to questions where appropriate
  • Work across a variety of school settings, including mainstream and SEN environments
  • Maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on pupil progress and behaviour
Candidate Requirements

We welcome applications from candidates who meet one or more of the following:

  • Hold a degree (any subject considered, though core subjects such as English, Maths or Science are advantageous)
  • Have previous teaching, tutoring or classroom-based experience
  • Have experience supporting or managing behaviour in schools or youth settings
  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Have a background in youth work, coaching, mentoring or similar roles
Essential Skills & Qualities
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • Confidence leading a class independently
  • Flexibility and adaptability across different schools and age groups
  • A proactive, professional and organised approach
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and instructions effectively
Safeguarding & Compliance
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service is highly desirable (or willingness to obtain one)
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
