Job summary

Recreation Road Infant School is seeking a Cover Supervisor to support children’s learning through an inquiry-based approach. The role covers infant and potential future primary phase work, with duties including small-group activities, monitoring, and class cover during teacher absences.

Ideal candidates will have NVQ 3 or equivalent, strong numeracy/literacy, and a collaborative, proactive approach to developing pupils’ skills. Term-time plus one week.

Qualifications

  • Has NVQ 3 or equivalent in teaching assistance or proven experience.
  • Has recent experience in the infant phase and is prepared to work across all primary age groups.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills are required.
  • Can work with children with additional needs and tailor group work and nurture.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver small group learning activities with the class teacher.
  • Support monitoring and assessment alongside the class teacher.
  • Supervise a whole class during short-term absence of a teacher (planned, ad‑hoc or unplanned).
  • Be based at Recreation Road Infant School, with potential deployment across the primary phase in future years.

About this role

The Heigham Community Federation has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join our thriving team and help us to support children’s learning and development through a holistic and inquiry-based approach.

  • Salary – Grade E, £13.90 - £14.58 per hour
  • Permanent
  • Part Time
  • 27.5 hours per week
  • Term Time plus 1 week
  • Required as soon as possible in autumn term 2026
  • It would suit someone who has experience of working with infant aged children and working as part of a team
  • It would also suit someone who is looking to broaden their experience of working with children and supporting them to be able to flourish.
  • The successful candidate will be based at Recreation Road Infant School, working across the infant phase. However, they may be deployed across the primary phase in future years.
  • The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation and delivery of small group learning activities, supporting with monitoring and assessment, alongside the class teacher.
  • The successful candidate will supervise a whole class in the short‑term absence of a teacher. This includes class cover on a planned, ad‑hoc or unplanned basis.

  • Has recent experience working in the infant phase, and is fully prepared to work in all primary age groups.
  • Has good numeracy/literacy skills.
  • Has NVQ 3 or equivalent in teaching assistance or proven experience.
  • Can work with children with additional needs and support these children through tailored group work and nurture.
  • Can use their own initiative.
  • Has good communication skills, with children and adults.
  • Has a contagious enthusiasm for learning and has practice that engages children by stimulating their imagination and curiosity.
  • Is highly resilient and shows a proactive, solution‑focused approach to personal and professional development.
  • Can act effectively as part of a team.
  • Brings a strong work ethic, proven teamwork and an excellent sense of humour to our vibrant school community.
