Job summary

Charles Darwin Primary School in Norwich is seeking a capable Cover Supervisor to supervise classes when teachers are absent and to support learning activities. The role is part-time, 35 hours per week over five days, starting October 2026, at our Rose Lane site.

You will provide high quality class supervision, assist with planning and administration, and help source curriculum resources while upholding safeguarding policies for pupils.

Qualifications

  • Very good numeracy/literacy skills (GCSE C or NVQ3 in Maths/English).
  • Proficient use of technology to support teaching & learning.
  • Experience of teaching or learning environments covering groups or whole classes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with pupils, parents/carers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality supervision of classes to cover short-term absence.
  • Provide general curriculum support including planning and administration.
  • Procure and develop curriculum and enrichment resources.
  • Follow safeguarding policies to promote welfare of young people.

Job description

Salary: Support Staff Pay Scale F: £23,762 to £25,776 pro-rata per annum (Actual) (£28,598- £31,022 full time/full year equivalent)

Part Time: 35 hours per week over 5 days from Monday to Friday

Working Weeks: 39 weeks

Start Date: October 2026

This role will be based at Charles Darwin Primary, 81 Rose Lane, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 1DJ.

Charles Darwin Primary is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable and responsible person to work as a Cover Supervisor to provide cover for whole classes whilst covering the absence of teachers to allow them to carry out professional duties and training.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • To provide high quality supervision of classes to cover short-term absence of the regular teacher
  • To provide high quality general curriculum support including planning and administration
  • To provide effective and efficient development / procurement of curriculum and enrichment resources
  • To implement the academy's safeguarding policy, following procedures for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
About You:

You will be someone with strong communication and behaviour management skills, confidence, patience, and adaptability. You will be able to remain calm under pressure, build positive relationships with students, and effectively supervise a class by delivering set work and managing classroom behaviour.

Essential:
  • Very good numeracy/literacy skills/GCSE grade C (or NVQ 3 equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Proficient use of technology and understanding of its use in supporting effective teaching and learning
  • Experience of teaching (or other relevant learning environments) covering groups or whole classes
  • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively, both orally and in writing, with pupils, parents/carers and staff
Desirable:
  • Basic experience of assessing student progress and contributing to the assessment process.
  • Knowledge of the needs of SEN students in academic surroundings
