Job summary

GSL Education Lincoln Branch is seeking a reliable Cover Supervisor to support pupils across Grantham. You will supervise classes in the absence of teachers, ensuring engagement with pre-planned lessons and maintaining a safe learning environment.

The ideal candidate has strong communication and behaviour management skills, with a safeguarding-focused approach. Experience with children is desirable, and a degree is helpful but not essential. DBS checks are required.

• A degree or relevant qualification is desirable but not essential.
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes during the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
• Support pupils in completing pre-planned lessons and learning activities.
• Maintain a safe, positive and orderly classroom environment.
• Manage pupil behaviour effectively in line with school policies.
• Encourage pupils to remain focused, engaged and motivated throughout lessons.
• Take accurate class registers and report attendance concerns to the appropriate staff.
• Provide guidance to pupils and clarify lesson instructions where necessary.
• Monitor pupils' engagement and report any concerns to teaching staff.
• Adapt confidently to different subjects, year groups and classroom environments.
• Follow school safeguarding, health and safety and behaviour management procedures.

Requirements of a Cover Supervisor:

• Previous experience in a school, education, youth work or similar setting is advantageous.
• Strong communication, organisation and classroom management skills.
• Confidence in maintaining positive behaviour and managing classroom situations.
• A calm, patient and adaptable approach.
• A degree or relevant qualification is desirable but not essential.
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
• An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one
