Job summary

The Suthers School is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor to help maintain a positive learning environment in the absence of teaching staff. This is a permanent, full-time post, term-time only, located in Nottinghamshire with scale 4 pay (£26,403–£28,142 pro-rata).

You will supervise students, prepare learning spaces, manage behaviour, assist with lessons and exams, and support the pastoral team. The school upholds safeguarding and will require an enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising students in a school setting.
• Ability to manage student behaviour to maintain a constructive environment.
• Support learning environments and classroom materials.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students in class in the absence of a teacher.
• Assist in preparing the learning environment and materials.
• Manage student behaviour to ensure a constructive working environment.
• Respond to students about the work that has been set.
• Collect completed work and return it as directed.
• Leave the room in good order at the end of the lesson.
• Supervise entry and departure of students per policy.
• Record and report attendance at lessons per policy.
• Assist in exam invigilation under supervision.
• Follow safeguarding policies and report issues accordingly.
• Supervise students arriving and leaving the site.
• Supervise lunch-time duty rotas.
• Support pupils in lessons when no cover is available.

The Suthers School are looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join a warm and compassionate environment where every staff member makes a significant contribution to the experience of our students.

Your Main Responsibilities Within This Role Will Be

• Supervising students in class in the absence of a teacher in accordance with the school policy.
• Assisting in preparing the learning environment and materials used therein.
• Managing student behaviour to ensure a constructive working environment.
• Responding to students about the work that has been set.
• Collecting any work completed after the lesson and returning it to an agreed person / place.
• Leaving the room in good order at the end of the lesson.
• Supervising entry and departure of students in accordance with the school policy.
• Recording and reporting attendance at lessons in accordance with the school policy.
• Assisting in exam invigilation under the supervision of the examinations officer. Following the school’s behaviour policies and reporting back as appropriate using the schools’ agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the class and any other issues arising.
• Dealing with any immediate safeguarding emergencies according to the school’s policies and procedures.
• Supervise students arriving and leaving the school site.
• Supervise students at lunch time on a duty rota.
• When there is no cover the time will be spent supporting pupils in lessons, either with individual pupils or small groups in or out of the classroom, or supporting the pastoral team with OnCall or the Respect and Responsibilities room.
