Job summary

Outwood Academy Shafton, part of Outwood Grange Academies Trust, is seeking a proactive Cover Supervisor to maintain learning continuity during teacher absences. You will supervise whole classes and implement pre-set work under guidance, ensuring a constructive classroom environment across subjects.

The post is 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term-time plus five inset days, with an actual salary of £22,125.52 – £23,459.07.

Qualifications

Are you a proactive and engaging individual with excellent classroom management skills, ready to step in and ensure continuity of learning during teacher absences? The overall purpose of this post is to supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers and implement work programmes under the guidance of teaching staff.

Outwood Academy Shafton is an academy bursting with potential for excellence. The students and staff are passionate about their school and there is a strong sense of belonging within the academy. The Academy is a large 11-16 school with just over 1,400 students on roll. It sits at the heart of its community. The academy is full, annually, with first choice preferences and we have a large number of families who are waiting for a place for their child. The academy is a new-build academy, opening almost a decade ago. The primary duty is supervising whole classes during short-term teacher absence, implementing pre-set work programmes. The supervisor manages student behaviour according to the Consequences Policy to maintain a constructive working environment. Responsibilities include assisting in preparing the environment and materials, responding to student questions about the set work, and collecting completed assignments. Administrative tasks involve supervising student entry/departure, accurately recording and reporting lesson attendance. The role also supports examination logistics by assisting in exam invigilation and reporting back on pupil behaviour or issues using referral procedures.

Essential skills required are the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of audiences, maintain confidentiality, and utilize standard ICT packages including Microsoft Office. The supervisor must demonstrate excellent time management and organisation skills. Critically, they must be able to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner and recognise potential child safeguarding issues. Experience of working in a school environment is desirable. The ability and willingness to obtain and/or enhance qualifications and training and development is essential.
