Job description

Hours and Location: Zero Hour Contract. You will be asked to cover driver shifts as required to cover driver absences.

Location: Based in Ilkeston.

WARD has several exciting opportunities for experienced Class 1 & 2 HGV drivers. We are currently recruiting for experienced drivers to cover absences on a zero-hour contract, with work scheduled as needed. This may include last-minute ad-hoc shifts during holidays, unexpected absences, or busy periods. Shift durations are typically around 12 hours, starting from 4:00 am, mostly day shifts with occasional night shifts.

Our fleet is modern, with all vehicles less than 5 years old, including a newly acquired fleet. Join a team of over 100 driving professionals dedicated to environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Transport materials from our customers to processing sites, where waste and metal are processed into reusable materials. Class 1 drivers may also cover:

• Artic Drivers
• Skip Drivers
• Roll on Roll off Wagon & Drag Drivers
• Tippers

Class 2 drivers may cover:

• Roll on Roll off Drivers
• Skip Drivers

Responsibilities include:

• Communicating with planners and following schedules
• Maintaining good relationships with customers and on-site clients
• Conducting thorough pre-start vehicle checks
• Reporting vehicle defects
• Following company Safe Operating Procedures
• Vehicle maintenance and daily checks
• Completing paperwork accurately

Skills and Knowledge Required:

Previous driving experience is essential. The ideal candidate will have:

• LGV Cat C + E License (Class 1)
• LGV Cat C License (Class 2)
• Current DCPC Card
• Good geographical knowledge
