Job Responsibilities
To promote the general progress, health, safety, and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group of pupils assigned to her/him.
- Planning and preparing work for pupils assigned to her/him.
- Teaching, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to her/him including the setting and marking of work carried out by those pupils in school and elsewhere.
- Providing a stimulating classroom environment which encourages pupils to become independent learners.
- Assessing, recording, and reporting on the development, progress and attainment achieved by those pupils.
- Communicating and consulting, in accordance with current guidelines and circulars, with the parents of the pupils s/he is assigned to teach.
- Promoting the economic well-being of all pupils and contributing to the wider school and community.
- Participating in arrangements made in accordance with the Performance Management Regulations for the appraisal of her/his performance and that of other teachers.
- Reviewing from time to time her/his methods of teaching and programme of work.
- Participating in arrangements for her/his further training and professional development as a teacher as appropriate.
- Taking all reasonable steps to maintain good order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both on school premises and during school activities elsewhere.
- Participating as appropriate in meetings related to the curriculum, administration, or organization of the school.
- Preparing pupils for public examinations and assessments approved by the Secretary of State, including recording and reporting assessments and supervising examinations.
- Participating in an equitable system of cover in accordance with school policy.
- Attending and supervising assemblies, registering attendance, and supervising pupils before, during, and after school sessions as per school policy.
- Ensuring the punctual marking and updating of attendance registers, reporting absences and issues to the appropriate staff.
- Managing other requests for information about pupils and maintaining up-to-date pupil records.
- Assisting in preparing references and reports for outside agencies, in consultation with colleagues.
- Upholding the ethos of the school and implementing school policies on pupil behavior.
- Ordering and caring for equipment and materials for the class.
- Managing the support staff allocated to the class, both teaching and non-teaching.
- Providing individual guidance to pupils as necessary.
- Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children under their responsibility.
- Covering for PPA and Leadership time, with a specialism in Music, Computing, or MFL, to teach across the whole school.
