Job summary

A governmental legal organization in Glasgow is looking for Court Officers for full-time roles, both permanent and fixed-term. Job description

Are you interested in contributing to supporting justice and being an integral part of the courts? Glasgow Sheriff Court has opportunities for Court Officers on a permanent and fixed-term basis.

There is 1 full-time permanent role and 4 full-time fixed-term roles for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the court, escort the Sheriff to/from court, and attend to the Sheriff’s requirements during proceedings.
  • Ensure the court operates in an orderly manner, working closely with the Clerk, Police Officer, and GEOAmey to maintain decorum and efficiency.
  • Manage court productions, collect witnesses from witness rooms, and facilitate their entry into court.
  • Utilize Court Information Technology during proceedings and liaise with court users.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake reception duties, providing high-quality service to callers, court users, and contractors.
  • Check in witnesses, direct them to appropriate rooms, and liaise with Witness Services.
  • Manage jurors and oversee their seclusion when considering verdicts.
  • Open and close the court building as needed.
  • Call witnesses, handle productions, escort the Sheriff, and assist with CCTV evidence cases.
  • Maintain security and standards of behaviour within the court.
  • Perform administrative duties such as filing, photocopying, and distributing court papers.
  • Collect and dispatch mail, including DX, legal, and general post.
  • Retrieve reference books from the library for court officials.
  • Undertake light portering duties and update court reference guides.
  • Set up audio/visual equipment for cases involving vulnerable witnesses.
  • Open buildings, report maintenance issues, and assist with other duties as required.
