Job Title: Course Leader in English

Are you passionate about English and ready to lead with energy and purpose? Colchester Institute is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven Course Leader in English to take the helm of our dynamic GCSE English programme!

About the Role:

Step into a leadership role where your expertise will shine! As Course Leader, you’ll:

  • Design clear templates for English GCSE sessions and support colleagues in effective, timely planning. Lead marking standards and proactively develop and prepare assessments.
  • Take a lead role in quality assurance, providing clear feedback to ensure all resources meet agreed requirements.
  • Deliver teaching responsibilities aligned with FE course leadership; model excellence and use experience to lead and facilitate CPD.
  • Record and monitor learner progress using individual learning plans and effective course management.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Area Head and Area Head to develop the curriculum and maximise learner progress.
  • Actively promote College courses by attending open evenings, applicant evenings, careers events, school visits, and other marketing activities.
  • Continuously develop and update personal professional expertise in relevant subject areas.
  • Participate in the College’s appraisal scheme.
  • Maintain and expand links with external organisations as appropriate.
  • Undertake additional duties as required, consistent with the nature of the post.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education to level 3 or above and/or a professional qualification in relevant subject area or equivalent
  • Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalent
  • Relevant Teacher training / completing within 3 years of employment or 3 years of the first available course

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of leading courses and/or curriculum development.
  • Able to demonstrate experience of working with learners with a wide range of needs.
  • Experience of planning and supporting others to plan to meet quality requirements.
