Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 (Based on experience and qualifications)

Employment Type: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm

About the role:

William College is set to expand its academic portfolio with the introduction of a BSc Criminology programme. As we prepare to launch this programme, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Course Leader in Criminology to play a key role in shaping and leading this exciting new programme from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting contribution to a growing institution and inspire the next generation of criminology professionals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, delivery, and review of the Criminology programme in collaboration with university partners and internal teams.
  • Ensure academic coherence and consistency across modules, assessments, and teaching delivery.
  • Coordinate the planning and scheduling of teaching and assessment activities across the programme.
  • Provide line management or academic oversight of lecturers and associate staff contributing to the programme.
  • Monitor student retention, progression, and achievement, and lead interventions where needed.
  • Manage annual monitoring, student feedback, external examiner engagement, and partner reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with awarding university regulations, quality standards, and assessment policies.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Academics or Dean to lead and enhance curriculum design, development, and delivery in Criminology.
  • Ensure high-quality academic standards through assessment moderation, feedback, and peer review processes.
  • Engage in subject-specific and pedagogical research, contributing to the academic profile of William College and supporting student success.
  • Participate in university/partner-led research and scholarly activities relevant to Criminology and social sciences.
  • Champion continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices, including self-assessment and quality monitoring.
  • Strengthen links with criminal justice stakeholders, including law enforcement, charities, and policy bodies, to enhance employability and real-world application.
  • Represent William College at external forums and academic events to raise the institution's profile.
  • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional development and teaching excellence through formal qualifications and peer engagement.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong organisational and leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and deadlines.
  • A Master's degree and/or PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a related discipline.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCHE, FHEA, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at undergraduate level in UK higher education.
  • Familiarity with VLEs (e.g. Moodle), online delivery tools (e.g. MS Teams, Zoom), and digital learning platforms.
  • Knowledge and experience of teaching core criminology subjects such as crime theory, policing, criminal justice, research methods, and social policy.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience of working within or alongside the criminal justice sector (e.g. police, probation, legal system, NGOs).
