Countrymen's Club Manager (Part-Time)

Location: Rylands Farm, Holnest, Sherborne, Dorset

Salary: £15.50 to £17.00 per hour, 21 to 28 hours per week (must include Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Countrymen UK is a small, hands-on charity helping older men overcome isolation through meaningful, farm-based activities. We are seeking a practical, compassionate Manager to lead our Dorset project and its future development.

You will manage staff and volunteers, plan outdoor sessions, ensure compliance and necessary fundraising and marketing activities, and maintain positive relationships with carers, funders, and partners.

We are looking for someone who is organized, confident with people, and enthusiastic about rural life. Experience in health, social care, or working with older adults is a plus. A car owner/driver is preferred.

Countrymen's Club Manager - Job Description

Our Charitable Purpose: Countrymen UK uses the farm and countryside environment to help men facing challenges due to deteriorating physical or mental health or changing social circumstances, including conditions like Dementia, Parkinson's, Stroke, Isolation, Injuries, Anxiety, Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress, Chronic Pain, Cancer, Heart and Lung conditions, among others.

Purpose of the position: To ensure the sustainability of the charity while maintaining the ethos of the Club through positive coordination and management of resources, opportunities, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.

Enable older men to participate in practical outdoor activities related to farming and horticulture.

Ensure legal and financial compliance, proper policies, timely reporting, and well-informed Trustees.

Act as Safeguarding Lead, follow Health and Safety procedures, and complete risk assessments as needed.

Location: Rylands Farm, Boyshill Drove, Holnest, Sherborne, Dorset DT9 5PS

Responsible to: The Trustees of the Charity, including the Founder and the Charity Commission

Refer to the Directors of Future Roots and Rylands Farm for session planning and working practices.

Responsibilities include planning, communication, administration, and management to deliver safe, professional services, including session bookings, invoicing, staff and volunteer rotas, training, and support.

Ensure sessions are tailored and meaningful, with a knowledge or enthusiasm for farming and horticulture.

Supervise staff and volunteers, support marketing and fundraising activities, attend events, and develop relationships with external organizations, including applying for grants.

Responsible for recruiting and retaining participants with support from the team.

Manage budgets, report to the Board, and work professionally with stakeholders, Trustees, partners, and external organizations. Be an excellent brand ambassador.

Review and implement policies and procedures.

Lead Safeguarding and Health & Safety efforts at Rylands Farm.

Ensure financial and legal compliance.

Other tasks may be assigned to support the charity’s success.

Potentially evolve to include membership support or new revenue models involving additional staff or volunteers.

Accountability: Deliver role as per job description and Trustee plans, escalate risks early, and adhere to policies to minimize health, safety, and safeguarding risks.

Development: Regular reflection and learning with Trustees, annual appraisals, and training plans. Develop membership strategies and support organizational growth.

Administrative support may be developed through volunteer skills or paid support.

Terms and Conditions

Pay rate: £15.50 to £17 per hour based on experience.

Hours: 21 hours/week, flexible remote work, must include Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-5 on-site, year-round with holiday pay.

Opportunity to manage Potter's Garden for therapeutic gardening, managed separately by the Director of Rylands Farm.

Occasional weekend or evening work for events or meetings. Trustee meetings quarterly, usually in the evening.

Reports to Trustees and Founder, with limits of authority to be agreed upon.

Travel to meetings required; car owner/driver preferred with mileage reimbursement. Indicate any inability to drive in your application.

Position is permanent with a six-month probation period.
