The Counter Fraud Investigator is responsible for the day-to-day investigations across the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Driver/Rider/Vehicle environments. These roles will primarily focus on Driver-related investigations, but you will need to be highly adaptable and flexible, adjusting to the requirements of the role as and when business needs arise. Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

  1. Adopting the role of "Lead Investigator" when allocated, with the responsibility of planning, preparing, and managing investigations to a criminal standard based on evidence.
  2. Ensuring investigations are conducted in a manner that is only evidence-based.
  3. Investigating reports of suspected theory and/or practical driving tests (including impersonations and technology-assisted cheating at tests) and malpractice against the agency.
  4. Investigating reports of suspected illegal driving instruction and malpractice against the agency.
  5. Planning, preparing, and managing all investigations allocated to ensure all reasonable lines of enquiry are followed.
  6. Acting as the focal point for the collection and evaluation of evidence and the creation of case files.
  7. Preparing full reports and papers for prosecution cases and/or Public Enquiries to critical deadlines.
  8. Ensuring full compliance with all relevant legislation during investigations, including Police & Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA), Criminal Procedure & Investigations Act (CPIA), Data Protection Act (DPA), & Freedom of Information (FOI), and all Scottish equivalents.
  9. Providing the department manager with regular updates and progress reports for cases they are managing or involved with.
  10. Liaising with other government departments and Police Forces where their involvement would benefit the outcome of protecting citizens.
  11. Appearing in court as an expert witness.
  12. Planning and executing surveillance on targets, including dealing with RIPA issues.
