About the Role Are you passionate about protecting public funds and making a real difference in your community? The London Borough of Newham is seeking a motivated and inquisitive individual to join our Counter Fraud Team as an Apprentice Investigator. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fraud prevention and investigation while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. You'll be part of a dynamic team committed to tackling fraud across housing, council tax, business rates, and other public services.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the investigation of suspected fraud cases across various council services
  • Gather and analyse evidence, conduct interviews, and support enforcement actions
  • Work closely with internal departments and external agencies to share intelligence
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and case files
  • Learn and apply relevant legislation, policies, and investigative techniques
  • Complete apprenticeship training and assessments with full support from the team
Qualifications and Requirements
  • A keen eye for detail and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Integrity, discretion, and a commitment to public service
  • Willingness to learn and develop professionally
  • Completed at least A levels (or equivalent) and hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and undertake an apprenticeship programme
  • Relevant experience/education in a related sector is desirable
