Job Summary

To proactively manage a caseload of people experiencing a range of emotional issues, providing brief counselling interventions.

Main duties include:

1. Providing effective short-term counselling (6-8 sessions), and up to 12 sessions where clinically appropriate.
2. Undertaking case management.
3. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams within the PCN and referring clients to other IAPT services for appropriate stepped care.

Responsibilities

1. Manage own caseload providing specialist counselling.
2. Perform initial suitability assessments.
3. Maintain professional relationships, confidentiality, and boundaries.
4. Record and monitor client activities using the TPP system.
5. Work with senior clinicians to implement counselling services aligned with policies.
6. Assess clients' therapeutic needs and provide brief counselling, addressing issues like depression, relationship problems, bereavement, abuse, anxiety, confidence, and stress.
7. Exercise clinical responsibility in selecting and developing counselling strategies.
8. Communicate with referrers as appropriate.
9. Maintain records and adhere to confidentiality and data policies.
10. Ensure clinical standards and undertake risk assessments.

Person Specification

Essential skills include advanced counselling skills, knowledge of mental health issues and therapies, experience in primary care counselling, relevant qualifications, professional registration (e.g., BACP), and the ability to work under pressure. Access to transport is also required.
