Job description

The Patient and Family Support Team (PFST) offers practical and emotional support to patients and families who are known to our Hospice services, including psychological support, social support, spiritual care, counselling, and pre- and post-bereavement support.

We have an opportunity to join this team as a Counsellor. This is a part-time role working 15 hours per week, based in our hospice in Cambridge.

As a Hospice Counsellor, you will be responsible for providing a counselling service for those referred needing bereavement and/or counselling. This role involves managing a complex pre- and post-bereavement caseload, acting in an advisory capacity within the organisation and to local partners. You will support a team of volunteers and provide student counselling placements. Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in highly emotive environments.

Job responsibilities

The PFST offers practical and emotional support, including psychological, social, spiritual, and bereavement support.

As Hospice Counsellor, you will provide counselling for bereavement and other needs, manage a complex caseload, advise within the organization and to partners, support volunteers, and provide student placements. You must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and work effectively in emotive environments.

Qualifications required include a diploma in Counselling/Psychotherapy (Level 4 or equivalent), BACP or UKCP accreditation, or HCPC registration, along with evidence of CPD, knowledge of ethical frameworks, grief and bereavement theories, and relevant legislation.

Experience in end-of-life and bereavement counselling, working in health or social care, group work, caseload management, and training staff in bereavement care is essential.

This position requires an Enhanced DBS Check with Child and Adult Barred lists.

Salary starts at £38,682, progressing to £46,580, pro-rata for part-time.

Note: Salary is based on full-time hours; negotiations are limited and only considered for candidates with exceptional strengths.
