Executive Network Legal Ltd in Birmingham is seeking a Costs Team Leader (Medical Negligence) to guide a team of costs professionals on high-value matters. You’ll oversee Bills of Costs, detailed assessments and budgeting while partnering with Medical Negligence teams.

Qualifications

• Experience leading or managing teams in a costs environment or professional services.
• Strong knowledge of costs work within medical negligence or high-value personal injury.
• Understanding of costs budgeting, detailed assessment, CPR, legal aid provisions and costs recovery.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence with senior stakeholders.
• Practical approach to problem-solving and improving ways of working.
• Appreciation of time recording, costs systems and management information.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction and support across a team comprising Trainees, Law Costs Draftsmen and Costs Lawyers.
• Maintain technical standards, manage workflow, and ensure a responsive service to litigation colleagues.
• Act as a senior contact for Medical Negligence teams and stakeholders, understanding requirements.
• Oversee complex costs work, including Bills of Costs, pleadings and detailed assessment matters.
• Support colleagues with complex or high-value matters and resolve issues quickly.
• Contribute to wider strategy and development of the Costs function.
• Represent the team in stakeholder discussions and contribute to market initiatives.

Costs Team Leader (Medical Negligence), Birmingham, £60,000+ (DOE) - This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who combines strong technical costs knowledge with genuine leadership ability. You’ll be responsible for helping a talented team of costs professionals perform at their best, while acting as a trusted partner to our Medical Negligence teams on complex, high-value matters. REF:5011

THE ROLE

• As a key member of the Costs Team, you’ll provide direction and support across a team comprising Trainees, Law Costs Draftsmen and Costs Lawyers.
• You’ll be instrumental in maintaining technical standards, managing workflow and ensuring the team delivers a consistent, responsive service to our litigation colleagues.
• Acting as a senior contact for Medical Negligence teams and other stakeholders, understanding their requirements and ensuring the Costs Team responds effectively
• Overseeing complex costs work, including Bills of Costs, pleadings and detailed assessment matters
• Supporting colleagues with complex or high-value matters and helping to resolve issues quickly and pragmatically
• Contributing to the wider strategy and development of the Costs function
• Representing the team confidently in stakeholder discussions and contributing to initiatives that strengthen our service and market profile

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Previous experience of leading, supervising or managing people, preferably within costs, legal services or another professional environment
• Strong knowledge of costs work within medical negligence, clinical negligence or high-value personal injury
• A sound understanding of costs budgeting, detailed assessment, the Civil Procedure Rules, relevant legal aid provisions and costs recovery
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to remain focused when managing competing deadlines and priorities
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders
• A practical approach to problem-solving, with a willingness to identify issues and find better ways of working
• An appreciation of the importance of accurate time recording, costs systems and reliable management information
