The role

The Commercial Cost Modeller is focused on the interrogation, development, and challenge of commercial data and models, with the objectives of discovering and leveraging useful information that can be used to support evidence-based decision making.

The Commercial Cost Modeller is expected to support clients in the analysis of key commercial data and identify levers to drive efficiencies against their current models.

What your days will look like:

The Commercial Cost Modeller will be required to support engagement teams with tasks supported through review and evaluation of client data, supplier data, market data, and assessment/development of complex cost models. Typical examples include:

  1. Cost modelling: analyzing and challenging client/supplier cost models, creating 'should cost' and ‘Cost Transformation’ models to identify and drive efficiency opportunities. Includes cost analysis, assessing cost drivers such as labor rates, indirect/direct costs, and inflation.
  2. Performance/Incentive modelling: analyzing how financial and performance incentives (e.g., pain/gain share, KPIs) could influence supplier behavior.
  3. Support to client negotiations: identifying variances in “should cost” and supplier proposals to develop negotiation strategies and align costs with contractual terms.
  4. Support to business case development: utilizing “should cost” modelling outputs to generate a range of costs for approval.

As a Manager, you will be able to resolve unusual and nonstandard problems, be aware of alternative options, guide others, and anticipate future needs. You will display extensive practical experience and applied knowledge across various situations.

You will oversee the delivery of cost modelling by junior staff, QA their work, and support their development.

You will also contribute to solution design for engagements and help develop proposals to promote the team's work to potential clients.

This role is for you if:
  • Experience working as a Commercial Analyst, Cost Modeller, Cost Engineer, or Management Accountant in a corporate setting.
  • Knowledge and/or certifications in data models and reporting packages (ideally Excel, Power BI, Alteryx).
  • Ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost modelling skills.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Possession or willingness to obtain security clearance.
  • Experience in expanding a modelling capability within a broader portfolio of commercial services and building a team.
