Job summary

Amentum Technology is seeking a Cost Engineer to join our established project controls team in Birchwood, with a requirement to be in the office two days per week. You’ll support Project Managers, apply project controls, cost forecasting, and financial analysis, while developing strong relationships with stakeholders and delivering on time and within budget.

• Strong mathematical background and numerical accuracy are important.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Apply project controls processes and systems across projects.
• Support project set-up, close-out and reconciliations; ensure accurate cost allocation.
• Perform cost forecasting and financial analysis; monitor revenue and gross margin.
• Prepare client-specific monthly reports and internal reports for project reviews.
• Attend monthly project meetings and support bids and proposals.
• Assist Program Managers with earned value analysis, risk and opportunity management.

About the Opportunity

We’re looking for a Cost Engineer who bring a positive, proactive, can‑do attitude to their work. You’ll thrive here if you enjoy solving problems, taking ownership and helping project teams make informed decisions. This role requires the successful candidate to be in the office in Birchwood 2 days per week.

You’ll have strong Excel skills, confident communication, and the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels are essential. If you’re someone who likes to get into the detail, spot issues early and create clarity from complexity, you’ll fit right in.

You will support Project Managers in delivering projects on time and within budget through rigorous attention to detail and the application of Amentum’s project controls processes and best‑practice techniques.

Core Project Controls:

• Applying project controls processes and systems

• Project set‑up, close‑out and reconciliations

• Ensuring accurate cost allocation

• Cost forecasting and financial analysis

• Monitoring revenue and gross margin

• Ensuring corporate systems accurately reflect project status

• Monitoring aged debt and supporting recovery

• Preparing client‑specific monthly reports

• Producing internal reporting for Operational Project Reviews

• Contributing to and/or attending monthly project meetings

• Supporting bids and proposals

Supporting Project/Programme Managers with:

• Earned value analysis

• Risk and opportunity management

• Programme and resource monitoring

• Preparing change control and early warning notices

• Maintaining quality documentation

• Monitoring key performance indicators

Here’s What You’ll Need

• A positive, proactive can‑do attitude, with the confidence to take ownership and solve problems

• High confidence using Excel — including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation and the ability to analyse data and present it clearly

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with project teams and clients

• Be organised, reliable and comfortable managing multiple priorities

• Experience in a similar project controls, cost engineering or financial role

• Strong mathematical background and high numerical accuracy

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

• Experience with project controls tools and software
