Job summary

Sunblink seeks a qualified Cost Controller to support robust governance across a major infrastructure programme in Suffolk. The role focuses on cost reporting, forecasting and financial insight to aid decision-making, with NEC Defined Cost principles as a core framework.

The ideal candidate will have experience in construction or infrastructure projects, strong Excel and ERP skills, and excellent stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Qualifications

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA essential.
  • Experience on large-scale construction, engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC Defined Cost and Disallowed Cost principles.
  • Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience.
  • Analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor project costs against budgets, forecasts and NEC Defined Cost principles.
  • Prepare regular cost reports, including Disallowed Cost and fee-based forecasts.
  • Analyze cost variances and provide clear financial insight to project teams.
  • Support audits and NEC contractual compliance and governance.
  • Collaborate with finance, commercial, procurement and delivery teams.
  • Improve forecasting accuracy and monitor committed costs, accruals and financial risks.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimisation and improved financial performance.
  • Support development and improvement of financial controls and reporting processes.

Cost Controller - Major Infrastructure Project

Location: Suffolk


Salary: Up to £48,000 + Car / Car Allowance


The Opportunity

We are working on a major infrastructure project in Suffolk and are looking for an experienced Cost Controller to support robust financial governance and commercial performance across the programme.


This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional with experience in construction, engineering or major infrastructure projects, who has a strong understanding of NEC contracts and project cost control.


You will work closely with finance, commercial, procurement and delivery teams, providing accurate cost reporting, forecasting and financial insight to support effective decision-making.


The Role

As Cost Controller, you will be responsible for:



  • Monitoring project costs against budgets, forecasts and NEC Defined Cost principles.

  • Preparing regular cost reports, including Disallowed Cost and fee-based forecasts.

  • Analysing cost variances and providing clear financial insight to project teams.

  • Supporting audits and ensuring compliance with NEC contractual requirements and project governance.

  • Working closely with finance, commercial, procurement and delivery teams.

  • Improving forecasting accuracy and monitoring committed costs, accruals and financial risks.

  • Identifying opportunities for cost optimisation and improved financial performance.

  • Supporting the development and improvement of financial controls, reporting processes and governance.

  • Providing accurate and timely information to support project decision-making.


About You

The successful candidate will have:



  • A recognised accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA - essential.

  • Experience working on large-scale construction, engineering or infrastructure projects.

  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly Defined Cost and Disallowed Cost principles.

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems.

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Clear communication and strong stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience working with major projects or within Tier 1 / joint venture environments would be advantageous.

  • Experience with Oracle E1 or similar ERP systems would be beneficial.
