Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a diligent Cost Controller to support cost queries, validation and weekly reporting on the ASTI Project. You will work with the Commercial and Finance teams to allocate costs, analyse variances and provide audit-ready samples.

The role offers flexibility between project or office work, with site travel required. Strong IT skills and Oracle R12 experience are advantageous, and a full driving licence is needed.

Qualifications

  • The candidate should be highly motivated, proactive and practical.
  • They must work well in fast-paced environments with tight timescales.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Good IT literacy and familiarity with Oracle R12 CVR is preferred.
  • Must hold a full driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the project team with cost queries and validate costs.
  • Support Commercial by ensuring correct cost allocation and weekly reports.
  • Perform variance analysis of actual vs forecast costs.
  • Monitor and track project costs and assist senior staff as needed.
  • Interface with Finance Manager, project team, HR and wider finance teams.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and contractors.
  • Provide cost samples for audits and validation monthly/quarterly.
  • Assist with ad-hoc analysis for Finance Manager and Commercial Lead.
  • Travel to site as required; may be project or office based.

Join our Power T&D team as a Cost Controller on the ASTI Project and you’ll deliver
complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you.

What you'll be doing
  • Assisting the project team with cost queries and gaining back-up/validation to costs
  • Supporting Commercial function by ensuring correct cost allocation and running of weekly cost reports
  • Variance analysis of actual v forecast costs
  • Monitor and tracking of costs
  • Plus any other tasks to assist the Senior finance manager or project staff
  • Interfaces with Senior Finance Manager, Site Project Team, HR and BB Newcastle
    and wider finance teams
  • Liaising with External Suppliers and Contractors
  • Working with Clients stakeholders to facilitate audits monthly/quarterly provide
    samples of costs to enable audits and validation.
  • Support Finance Manager and Commercial Lead in any ad-hoc analysis.
  • Flexible position – may be project based or office based but site travel will be
    required

  • Review and Prioritise tasks with accuracy
  • High levels of IT Literacy, preferably used Oracle R12 accounts system but not essential.
  • Full driving licence
  • Gain understanding of Oracle R12 CVR (link between Commercial Project reporting and Financial project reporting)
